Grilled fish tacos topped with fresh corn salad and seasoned with Perry Spices Taco Time seasoning

Easy Grilled Fish Tacos with Perry Spices Taco Time

Sep 20

When most people hear taco seasoning, fish tacos are rarely the first thing that comes to mind — ground beef usually is.

But Taco Time can do a whole lot more than taco meat.

One of our Perry Spices creators, Sydney Blankenship (@homecookcolumbus), recently put together an incredible fish taco spread using Taco Time on the fish and in a fresh corn salad — and it was exactly the kind of meal that makes us say:

Yep. This is why we made this blend.

Simple ingredients. Fresh food. Big flavor.

And definitely not boring.

Can You Use Taco Seasoning on Fish?

Absolutely.

Fish has a relatively mild flavor, which makes it a great canvas for seasonings.

For these tacos, the fish was simply seasoned with:

  • Perry Spices Taco Time
  • Salt
  • A little olive oil

Then grilled until the outside was golden and the fish was tender and flaky.

That’s it.

No complicated marinade. No giant ingredient list.

And that’s one of the things we love most about having a good all-in-one seasoning blend around: sometimes dinner really can be that simple.

Building the Fish Tacos

While the fish cooked, she sautéed zucchini and onions with olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper.

Then she made a quick crunchy slaw with:

  • Cabbage
  • Carrots
  • Mayo
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Lime

That combination gives you a little bit of everything:

Warm, seasoned fish.
Tender vegetables.
Cool, crunchy slaw.
Fresh lime and cilantro.

Layer everything into your favorite tortillas and you’ve got a pretty impressive taco night without making dinner unnecessarily complicated.

And Then There Was the Corn Salad 🌽

Honestly, this might be our favorite part.

Alongside the tacos, she made a fresh corn salad using:

  • Fresh corn
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Red onion
  • Cotija cheese
  • Cilantro
  • Perry Spices Taco Time

That last sprinkle of Taco Time pulls the entire meal together.

It’s also a perfect example of something we tell customers all the time:

You do not have to use a seasoning only for the food printed on the front of the bottle.

Taco Time works beautifully on meat and tacos — but vegetables, corn, rice, potatoes, eggs, seafood, and side dishes are all fair game too.

What Does Taco Time Taste Like?

Taco Time is designed to bring the savory, smoky, warm flavors you expect from taco seasoning without requiring you to pull half the spice cabinet out every time you cook.

It works especially well when you want an easy flavor base for:

  • Ground beef
  • Ground turkey
  • Chicken
  • Steak
  • Fish
  • Shrimp
  • Vegetables
  • Corn
  • Potatoes
  • Rice bowls
  • Taco salads
  • Fajita-style meals

And as this meal proves, one seasoning can easily work across multiple components of the same dinner.

Is Taco Time Only for Tacos?

Definitely not.

And this fish taco recipe is a perfect example.

Yes, you can absolutely use Taco Time for traditional tacos.

But think of it more as a Mexican-inspired all-purpose seasoning.

Try it in:

  • Burrito bowls
  • Quesadillas
  • Nachos
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Corn salad
  • Grilled fish
  • Shrimp bowls
  • Eggs
  • Breakfast potatoes
  • Chicken meal prep
  • Rice
  • Taco salads

The shaker might say Taco Time.

That doesn’t mean taco night gets exclusive rights to it. 😂

Why We Love Creator Recipes Like This

We can tell you how a seasoning tastes.

We can write descriptions.

We can show you ingredients.

But seeing someone actually use a Perry Spices blend in their own kitchen tells you something different.

It shows you what that product might actually look like in your dinner rotation.

And this meal checks pretty much every box we love:

Fresh protein.

Vegetables.

Simple preparation.

A ton of flavor.

And multiple ways to use the same seasoning.

That’s the kind of cooking Perry Spices was created for.

How to Recreate the Meal

You don’t necessarily need exact measurements to make this one work.

For the fish:

Coat your fish lightly with olive oil and season with Taco Time and salt.

Grill until golden on the outside and cooked through enough to flake easily with a fork.

For the vegetables:

Sauté zucchini and onions in olive oil with garlic, salt, and pepper until tender and lightly browned.

For the slaw:

Mix shredded cabbage and carrots with mayo, fresh cilantro, and lime juice.

For the corn salad:

Combine fresh corn, cherry tomatoes, red onion, Cotija cheese, and cilantro.

Finish with a sprinkle of Taco Time and toss everything together.

Then assemble the tacos and dig in.

Simple.

Fresh.

And ridiculously good.

What Kind of Fish Works Best for Fish Tacos?

A mild, firm white fish is usually easiest to work with because it holds up well during cooking and lets the seasoning shine.

Some common options include:

  • Cod
  • Mahi mahi
  • Tilapia
  • Halibut
  • Pollock

Use whichever fish you enjoy and have access to.

The more important part is seasoning it well and avoiding overcooking it so the fish stays tender and flaky.

The Takeaway

If you’ve only been using taco seasoning on ground beef, consider this your sign to branch out.

Fish + Taco Time = absolutely worth trying.

And don't stop with the fish.

Season the vegetables.

Add it to your corn salad.

Use it in your rice.

Let the seasoning actually earn its spot in the cabinet.

Because one of our favorite things about Perry Spices is finding out just how many different meals you can make with a single shaker.
